The Hurricane Club

3 june.jpg

I'm not having a very good day today, for various reasons. I burnt myself quite badly last week and now understand why burn victims are kept in a coma. We had 8 people for dinner last night, and just the thought of going downstairs & seeing all the mess, makes me feel faint. Tyler's working, as usual - the cleaner seems to have done a runner - it's freaking hot and I dont have a Sunday paper or a book to lose myself in.

But apart from all of that, I'm having fun watching the hurricane tracker - as it really does feel like a storm brewing and apparently we are in for some flash floods and non-stop torrential rain.  Ohhh yipee.

We're looking for a name to register our new business - bakery/deli/breakfasts & lunches. I really like the Hurricane Club, but some dive in NYC has just stolen it. It has a nice Hemingway/swasbuckling feel to it. Any suggestions, anyone? First prize gets you a meal voucher for two and bottomless Mimosa's.

  1. How about: The Skiff - I love the rarely used word for a row/boat that appears in literature specifically in Hemingway's Old man and the Sea. The fishermen in the piece drink their coffee out of used condensed milk tins which would be a fun thing to do at the bakery/café as well. Santiago's might be nice. That's the little boy who is the friend of the old man. It's in keeping with Starbuck's which was named after Starbuck who was the first mate in Moby Dick ... a little known fact !! Will keep thinking. I want the prize !! XXXXXXXXX

  2. Eek !! Sorry. Correction !! Santiago is the name of the old fisherman. Manolin is the young boy/apprentice. Love a Hemingway reference. Moveable Feast? That implies catering though too. Manolin's? Will keep thinking on this lazy Sunday. Hope you feel better .... love there, amy x

  3. Lesson one from the school of hard knocks! Don't name it something unpronouceable or with a funny spelling. Make it relevant to the business such as Tyler's Deli which I think will work best because of the personal relationship that he will be building with his customers and the descriptive part of the name will let the customer know exactly what they can get there.
